Benedetta Argentieri
Benedetta Argentieri è una pluripremiata giornalista indipendente e regista di documentari. Dal 2014 si occupa principalmente dell’Iraq e della Siria, dove ha seguito il conflitto in corso e le lotte femministe con articoli e documentari. The Matchmaker, prodotto da Fandango, è il suo film più recente, presentato alla 79ª Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, che racconta la storia di una donna britannica che recluta donne per l’ISIS. Il film è stato proiettato in decine di festival in quattro continenti. Argentieri ha ricevuto il Phoenix Award in Germania e il film è stato selezionato per il David di Donatello. Nel 2020 ha diretto “Blooming in the Desert”, un cortometraggio sulle donne di Raqqa che assumono nuovi ruoli dopo la guerra e la fine dell’ISIS. Nel 2018 ha diretto “I am the Revolution”, un documentario su tre donne che lottano per la libertà e l’uguaglianza di genere in Afghanistan, Iraq e Rojava, nel nord-est della Siria. Il film è stato accolto con grande successo, è stato proiettato in decine di festival in tutto il mondo e distribuito per la televisione e per scopi didattici. Nel 2016 ha co-diretto con Bruno Chiaravalloti e Claudio Jampaglia il documentario “Our War”, presentato in anteprima alla 73ª Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia. Argentieri è anche una relatrice pubblica e tiene regolarmente conferenze nelle università e in altre sedi. È stata inoltre invitata a tenere una conferenza sul tema “Le donne in guerra” al Ted Talk X di Milano. Nel 2014 ha conseguito un Master in Giornalismo presso la Columbia University di New York, con specializzazione in politica.
Benedetta Argentieri is an award-winning freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker. Since 2014, she has focused primarily on Iraq and Syria, where she has covered the ongoing conflict and feminist struggles through articles and documentaries. The Matchmaker, produced by Fandango, is her most recent film, presented at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, which tells the story of a British woman who recruits women for ISIS. The film has been screened at dozens of festivals on four continents. Argentieri received the Phoenix Award in Germany and the film was selected for the David di Donatello. In 2020, she directed Blooming in the Desert, a short film about women in Raqqa taking on new roles after the war and the end of ISIS. In 2018, she directed “I am the Revolution,” a documentary about three women fighting for freedom and gender equality in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Rojava, in northeastern Syria. The film was met with great success, screened at dozens of festivals around the world, and distributed for television and educational purposes. In 2016, she co-directed the documentary “Our War” with Bruno Chiaravalloti and Claudio Jampaglia, which premiered at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival. Argentieri is also a public speaker and regularly gives lectures at universities and other venues. She was also invited to give a lecture on “Women in War” at Ted Talk X in Milan. In 2014, she earned a Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University in New York, specializing in politics.
