Khanieva Kateryna, Coordinator of prevention and response to cases of gender-based violence and violence related to war.
The main focus of my work for the past 8 years has been on monitoring and protecting women’s rights in the context of internal displacement and military conflict, empowering women through community mobilization and implementing the Women Peace Security agenda. I worked to involve every member of the community: women and girls of different ages and social status in meaningful dialogue and participation in projects aimed at peaceful coexistence and social cohesion. As an IDP, I know from my own experience how difficult it is to not have social support in a new community where you were forced to move due to hostilities in your hometown.
Since September 2014, I have been working with the non-governmental organization “Slavic Heart” to ensure that the women, men, boys and girls under the care of our organization have access to basic human rights, as well as social, economic and political rights.
In addition, the focus of my work was on the limitations of access to justice and the reasons for the absence of women in peacemaking processes, the development of inclusive approaches for the mobilization of the women’s movement in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
I firmly believe that my work will enable the implementation of the “More Justice for All” approach and work to create a more inclusive approach to the implementation of projects and programs that will help ensure long-term results for women and girls living in eastern Ukraine, including by promoting more involvement of women and girls in programs aimed at improving their economic situation.
I have a lot of experience in mobilizing women’s groups in the communities of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, I have a wide network of acquaintances in public organizations that work with women and girls throughout Ukraine, as well as established communications with representatives of the authorities at the national, regional and local levels. Since 2014, I have been a member of many women’s human rights networks and networks engaged in peacebuilding and dialogue.
Currently, our organization is a co-founder of the coalition 1325 Women Peace Security Donetsk region.
I have experience in writing shadow reports on many international documents for the international community.
