Orzala Nemat

Orzala Nemat è una studiosa afghana di fama internazionale e leader di think tank. Esperta di etnografia politica, ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca in studi sullo sviluppo presso la School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) e un master in pianificazione dello sviluppo presso l’University College London (UCL) nel Regno Unito. La dott.ssa Nemat è emersa come giovane leader dopo essere stata rifugiata di guerra per oltre dieci anni in Pakistan e ha ottenuto riconoscimenti nazionali e internazionali per il suo lavoro di principio sull’assistenza umanitaria, sui diritti delle donne e sui diritti umani. In seguito ha intrapreso ricerche e studi su questioni relative alla politica, alla governance e alle relazioni di potere nelle società colpite dalla guerra. Nel corso della sua carriera professionale, durata oltre ventidue anni, la dott.ssa Nemat ha fondato, diretto o collaborato con diverse organizzazioni di base, nazionali e internazionali. Ha fatto parte dei consigli di amministrazione di varie organizzazioni per lo sviluppo e ha partecipato a numerose conferenze internazionali e nazionali rappresentando le voci dell’Afghanistan e delle donne afghane. La dott.ssa Nemat presiede attualmente il comitato consultivo per l’Afghanistan della Open Society Foundation e fa parte, in qualità di amministratrice, di Afghanaid, un’organizzazione benefica britannica che opera in Afghanistan. Nemat è stata selezionata come Young Global Leader al World Forum nel 2009, Yale Greenberg World Fellows nel 2008 e ha ricevuto il Premio Isabel Ferror per l’istruzione femminile e il Premio Amnesty International per l’aiuto umanitario a bambini e donne nel 2000. 

 

Dr. Orzala Nemat is an internationally known Afghan scholar and think tank leader. She is an expert in political ethnography, holding a PhD in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and MSc in Development Planning from University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom. Dr Nemat emerged as a young leader from her time being a war refugee for over a decade in Pakistan and gained national and international recognition for her principled work on humanitarian assistance, women’s rights and human rights matters. She subsequently undertook research and studies on issues around politics, governance and power relations in war-affected societies. During her professional career of over twenty two years, Dr Nemat has founded, led or worked with various grassroots, national and international organisations. She served on various development organizations’ governance boards and attended numerous international and national conferences representing voices from Afghanistan and Afghan women. Dr. Nemat is currently chairing the Open Society Foundation’s Afghanistan Advisory board and serves on Afghanaid, a British Charity working in Afghanistan as a trustee. Dr Nemat was selected as a Young Global Leader at the World Forum in 2009, Yale Greenberg World Fellows in 2008 and is a recipient of the Isabel Ferror Award for Women’s Education and the Amnesty International Award for Humanitarian Aid to Children and Women in the year 2000.
