Rula Jebreal
Nata a Haifa nel 1973, Rula Jebreal è giornalista, scrittrice e docente universitaria, esperta di politica internazionale. Cresciuta a Gerusalemme, ha frequentato il collegio Dar Al-Tifel, fondato dall’attivista Hind al-Husseini, alternando lo studio al volontariato nei campi profughi. La sua esperienza personale e professionale è stata profondamente segnata dall’occupazione militare israeliana, tema che ha ispirato molte delle sue opere. Dopo aver vissuto in Italia, dove ha iniziato la carriera giornalistica, si è trasferita negli Stati Uniti, dove collabora con testate come il Washington Post, il New York Times, Foreign Policy, Newsweek e Time, ed è opinionista per reti televisive quali CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, HBO e France24. Nel 2017 ha introdotto Barack Obama al Global Innovation Summit e nel 2019 è stata nominata dal presidente Emmanuel Macron consigliera per le politiche di parità e contro la violenza di genere in occasione del G7. Dal 2018 insegna Giornalismo e Comunicazione all’Università di Miami, con un corso dedicato ai temi della propaganda e del genocidio. Autrice di tre romanzi e svariati saggi, tra cui il bestseller Miral, tradotto in otto lingue e portato al cinema da Julian Schnabel, e Il cambiamento che meritiamo (Longanesi, 2021), ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti internazionali per il suo impegno nel raccontare i diritti umani, la condizione femminile e i conflitti del nostro tempo.
Born in Haifa in 1973, Rula Jebreal is a journalist, writer, university professor, and expert in international politics. Raised in Jerusalem, she attended Dar Al-Tifel College, founded by activist Hind al-Husseini, alternating her studies with volunteer work in refugee camps. Her personal and professional experience has been deeply marked by the Israeli military occupation, a theme that has inspired many of her works. After living in Italy, where she began her journalism career, she moved to the United States, where she contributes to publications such as the Washington Post, the New York Times, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, and Time, and is a commentator for television networks such as CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, HBO, and France24. In 2017, she introduced Barack Obama at the Global Innovation Summit, and in 2019, she was appointed by President Emmanuel Macron as an advisor on gender equality and gender-based violence at the G7 summit. Since 2018, she has been teaching journalism and communication at the University of Miami, with a course dedicated to the themes of propaganda and genocide. Author of three novels and several essays, including the bestseller Miral, translated into eight languages and adapted for the cinema by Julian Schnabel, and Il cambiamento che meritiamo (Longanesi, 2021), she has received numerous international awards for her commitment to reporting on human rights, the status of women, and the conflicts of our time.
