We believe it is important to republish the proceedings of “Women in the Media,” a conference held in 2011, sponsored by the ARS Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission in collaboration with the FNSI National Equality Commission (President of the FNSI CPO, Lucia Visca, to the FNSI CPO Coordinator, Donatella Alfonso, the ASR DPO Chairs, Nella Condorelli and Arianna Voto) and the membership of women’s organizations, gender institutes, territorial and national equality institutions. With that meeting, a “table” of comparison and discussion was initiated to arrive at shared best practices on the issue of gender in information.
It is vitally important today to reweave the threads of a dense network of national and international collaborations, the result of decades of commitment by so many women journalists and professional associations. The exercise of memory is inescapable appointment with intellectual honesty that we want to characterize our moments of confrontation. Because to look forward it is necessary to stand on the shoulders of the giants who have gone before us.
