asthmae forumAsmae Dachan, the Italian-Syrian colleague who participated in the work of the Forum of Mediterranean Women Journalists (Bari-Lecce, Nov. 23 and 24, 2016) entrusted us with the appeal of forensic doctor Abu Jafar from Aleppo. The message reached Asmae through alternative social communication channels, such as groups on whatsapp, which allow the journalist to monitor and communicate 24 hours a day in real time with Syrian communities of doctors and activists.
Through these channels Asmae learns directly from sources the names of the injured people, the number and names of the deceased, and the locations of the bombings. It is a continuous bulletin of death and a continuous cry for help coming directly from Syria, via whatsapp.

Says Abu Jafar: “My name is Abu Jafar and I am a forensic doctor from Aleppo. I am launching an SOS, this may be my last appeal. I call on the international community, journalists, human rights organizations to do everything they can to stop the ongoing massacre in Aleppo. There are deaths everywhere, they are hitting the last survivors and even stones. We need you, we need your help as human beings. Perhaps this is my last appeal to the countries of the world. I appeal to anyone who cares about our fate, to human rights workers, to observers. Stop the slaughter. Aleppo is dying and breathing its last breaths.”
