European Press Prize 2026: Instagram Live for clarification on the competition

The prestigious journalism award is officially open. To help potential participants, an Instagram Live event entitled “Lunch with the European Press Prize” will be held on Thursday 13 November at 12:00 CET.

The new edition of the European Press Prize, which aims to promote excellent, independent and courageous journalism in Europe, is now underway. According to the organisation, “in a world that is changing faster than ever, journalism slows down just enough to observe what matters: the people, the facts, the moments that shape our understanding and our way of being together”.

The call for entries for 2026 is officially open, and journalistic works published between 1st December 2024 and 31st December 2025 are eligible.

The prize has five categories:

Distinguished Reporting,

Innovation,

Investigative Reporting,

Migration Journalism

Public Debate

Each category aims to represent a specific area of public interest and, within it, the jury intends to reward the investigation that has demonstrated the highest quality, impact and originality in both content and writing style.

All journalists from the 46 member countries of the Council of Europe are eligible to participate; this year, the invitation is also extended to professionals from Belarus and Russia.

Some important information

In a global climate where journalism faces growing challenges, from public trust to economic models, from political and social pressures to the spread of artificial intelligence, the award remains a benchmark for recognising and supporting stories that matter, that unite, that change.

The deadline for submissions is 14 December 2025 at 23:59 CET.

To help aspiring participants clarify any doubts and better understand how to apply, there will be a live session tomorrow at 12:00 CET on the award’s Instagram profile.
